Escher Beat - Sunrise Chillout Set @ Autosub - Burning Man 2015

This sunrise set is probably the best set I have ever played to date, and I was truly lucky to get to play my favorite music during such a crucial moment in peoples burns. I've had so many amazing sunrises at Burning Man over the years, it feels good knowing that I have now contributed to a lovely sunrise for many others as well. This recording starts with a track that was not played at the set, but rather was recorded earlier that week, as an improvised jam out in deep playa, organized and recorded by Mr. Blink (who also plays the hand-pan drum), with my campmate Ganavya singing, and a man named Caleb and myself throat singing. I thought it was a good way to introduce the set and set the tone. Ganavya met Mr. Blink during a greeter shift, and h told her to meet him at the temple round midnight. She brought me, a throat singer, and we went to the temple, almost didn't find them, and they had ANOTHER throat singer join. What are the chances? I apologize if the introductory voice bothers you, a solo version will be available soon. To set the stage, the set started around 5:45, with a sunrise set to be 6-6:30 depending on when you count sunrise. I entered the dome at Automatic Subconscious, and had to figure out how to turn all the amps, etc, worrying I wouldn't be able to do this set I was looking forward to doing all week. Fortunately I figured it out. My friends and campmates gathered inside the dome, which had a number of pillows along the perimeter. People laid down, some people brought blankets, others cuddled under their coats as they awaited the sun. Atop the dome, which is one of the tallest on playa, there is a row of hammock netting material. Many people climbed the ladder to get to the top of the dome, where they could see across the entirety of the festival, including an amazing vantage point of the sunset. My girlfriend chilled up there with a number of people who told her this was the best sunrise of their lives. I only wish I could DJ from such a viewpoint! In this sense, I recommend listening on headphones or a nice stereo setup somehwere comfy where you can just relax and unwind (perhaps from a long night of dancing like everyone there!) Lastly, this set is dedicated to Mark Last, who, when I landed in California on the way to the burn, I found out had passed away. Mark was a huge motivating force both in my music, and getting me involved in the burner community. Without him I'd likely not have gotten to do this set. RIP Mark.
