This, my first set I've ever played on the playa, is the one I've been wanting to play for as long as I can remember. I've got 30 years of love for electronic music dating back to the days of acid house, but it was TTITD that introduced me to dirty, funky, ass-shaking breaks. The Space Cowboys were a huge influence on me, and I credit my addiction to heroes like 8-Ball, Zach Moore, shOOey and Kap'n Kirk (many of whom I now count as friends). But before there were RSS feeds of tunes or podcasts or a Rockstar Librarian Guide, they were like gods to me. I'd show up to a barren wasteland chasing the bass and when I found it, it was like discovering hidden treasure. Pure bliss. They threw down some of the most amazing sets I'd ever heard, and touched my soul (and my booty) in ways that would forever change me. I credit the Cowboys, Brass Tax, Dusty Rhino, FnF and Opulent Temple (and countless other unknown-to-me playa DJs that drew me in off the Esplanade with your sick beats) for inspiring me to finally pick up the decks and do everything in my power to keep this magical sound alive in both the desert and the real world -- a sound that seems to have become harder and harder to find. This mix, then, is a tribute. To the producers over the past 12 or so years that this mix covers that created this sound, to the DJs who captured my attention and took me on incredible sonic journeys, to the sound camps that brought the infrastructure year after year, to my dear friend Raj for inviting me to take the helm of the trailer on Monday night, and to the culture that allowed me and countless others before me to share their passion with like-minded masses who live to shake their asses. Thank you, all of you. This is the set I would have wanted to hear this year, so I brought it. I hope you enjoy.
